GIA LAI — Construction of the DHN Gia Lai high-technology agricultural complex has begun in the Central Highlands Province of Gia Lai.

Situated in Ia Le Commune in Chu Puh District, the VNĐ1 trillion (US$44.6 million) complex is the fourth project developed by Hùng Nhơn Group and the Netherlands' De Heus.

It will be built on an area of around 100ha and include a pig farm with a capacity of 2,500 head imported from the Netherlands, an organic fertiliser factory, and an organic farming area.

It will have modern technologies throughout the breeding process to control livestock quality, optimise livestock performance and reduce costs.

There will be a grid-connected solar power system to help substantially reduce CO2 emissions.

Vũ Mạnh Hùng, chairman and general director of Hùng Nhơn Group, said, “The complex will contribute not only to the creation of a modern livestock model but also to the development of economic and social security in Gia Lai by providing opportunities and creating jobs for nearly 300 local workers and ethnic minorities.”

Under their long-term development strategy, De Heus and Hùng Nhơn also plan to build a value chain including a disease-free area in Gia Lai and nearby areas.

In another development, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development signed a memorandum of understanding with Dutch NGO AGRITERRA and De Heus Vietnam for research and development. The three will co-ordinate with local agencies and social organisations to build raw material production areas for the animal feed industry.

De Heus and Hùng Nhơn also signed a MoU for developing projects in animal husbandry and animal feed production.

They include major pig genetics projects and disease-free areas in the five provinces that make up the Central Highlands. — VNS
