HCM CITY — HDBank has awarded scholarships worth a total of VNĐ1 billion (US$43,164) to 1,000 disadvantaged children through the National Fund for Vietnamese Children’s "Spring for children" programme.
They were given away at a function on January 6 in Hà Nội attended by Vice President Đặng Thị Ngọc Thịnh, Minister of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs Đào Ngọc Dung and senior officials.
This was the second year HDBank collaborated with the fund to award the scholarships.
Last year too it had provided 1,000 scholarships worth VNĐ1 billion in the nine provinces, many of them remote, of Lai Châu, Hà Giang, Cao Bằng, Điện Biên, Thanh Hóa, Quảng Ninh, Nghệ An, Quảng Bình, and Kon Tum.
The bank undertakes many social and community activities.
In addition to the scholarships awarded to poor children through the Vietnam Child Protection Fund, HDBank aims to reach the poor through programmes in coordination with the Sponsoring Association for Poor Patients in HCM City to implement programmes such as sponsoring the cost of eye surgery for thousands of cataract patients, giving more than 15,000 health insurance cards to disadvantaged households, donating tens of charity houses, building bridges in rural areas, visiting and presenting gifts to disabled children in many provinces and cities nationwide.
For its contributions to society and the community, last year the lender received a Certificate of Merit from the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs. — VNS
