THUA THIEN - HUE (VNS)-- WorldTech Transfer Investment and the UAE-based Global Sphere broke ground for a solar-panel manufacturing plant in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue on Monday.

The 15ha plant in the Phong Dien Industrial Park is expected to cost nearly VND6.25 trillion (US$300 million).

Phase one of the project, the first by a UAE investor in the province, will be finished in 30 months and have an annual capacity of 60MW.

This will go up to 250MW in the second phase.

A large project such as this would boost the province's socio-economic development, especially its industrial sector, authorities said.

The 400ha Phong Dien Industrial Park so far has five tenants with a combined registered capital of $50 million and employing over 4,000 workers.

By 2020 it will expand to 700ha with focus on information technology, machinery, automobile assembly, electronics, packaging, agro-forestry-fishery, and garments. --VNS.
