Six talented young Vietnamese to attend “Oscars” of creative industry in Cannes during the summer.
Over more than a month of competition, Vietnam Young Lions 2018, the biggest arena in Vietnam’s marketing and communications (Marcom) industry, attracted nearly 500 contestants in 241 teams competing in three categories: Films, Digital and Marketers. The talent of Vietnam’s creative industry convinced the judging panels with their bold and distinctive ideas. The six most outstanding talent to represent Vietnam at Cannes Lion 2018 were revealed at a ceremony on April 18 in HCM City, with the six winners belonging to three teams: WHATEVER, NS, and JUST ANOTHER TEAM.
“One of our biggest achievements in this year’s competition is the expansion in both size and quality of contestants,” Pham Thi Dieu Anh, Managing director of AIM Academy and Head of the Organising Board, told the ceremony announcing the winners.
“The number of contestants has increased significantly100 teams in 2016 to 241 teams in 2018. The competition attracted not only marketing and communications specialists but also independent artists and Vietnamese enterprises, especially in the small and medium-sized enterprise sector. Vietnam Young Lions 2018 has become a playground for Vietnam’s creative community, who share a passion to bring Vietnam to the world.”
Under theme “Live with the Heart of a Lion”, the competition gathers together the best minds from leading multinational corporations in Vietnam, such as Unilever Vietnam, Suntory PepsiCo Beverage Vietnam, Dutch Lady, and Nestle Vietnam. Notably, this year also sees many Vietnamese brands participate, expressing their strong interest in creative works and efforts to support the development of the country’s creative industry.
In addition, with adaptive changes in the format, this year’s competition has also gained major attention from the creative industry. For the first time, the Brief Day was livestreamed on AIM Academy’s Fanpage, to introduce the challenge to candidates, while the Presentation Day, featuring the Top 7 teams in each category, attracted more than 1,000 youngsters to come and learn innovative approaches from the teams.
“This year’s competition is a big challenge for young lions, because they have to see digital channels with a newer, more modern vision to reflect its ever changing and developing nature over time,” said Ngo Minh Thuan, Managing director of DNA Digital and Jury Member in the Digital Category. “Under 24-hour pressure, I think they need strong spirit, decisiveness and flexibility in finding and researching information, in particular ensuring it’s accurate and unique.”
After the challenge in Vietnam, the winner of the Gold Prize in each category will begin their journey to conquer the creative arena of Cannes Young Lions 2018 in France this summer. AIM Academythe organiser of the competitionwill sponsor the whole trip, worth nearly $44,000, for six young talent to compete in Cannes and experience the Cannes Lions Creative Festival.
AIM Academy is the official representative of Cannes Lions in Vietnam. Over the past two years, it has found the best young talent to represent Vietnam in the Young Lions competition.
