According to statistics of Vietnam Association of Motorcycle Manufacturers (VAMM), the sales of motorcycles of the market in the first quarter of 2018 was 803,204 units, up by nearly 1.9 percent compared to the same period of 2017.
This is the total number of motorcycles sold in five major brands including Honda, Yamaha, Piaggio, Suzuki, and SYM, not including smaller brands and used units. On average, Vietnam’s market consumes over 267,000 motorcycles each year or over 8,900 unit per day. The products provided by five members of the VAMM is very diverse, including scooters, sequential manual transmission units, motorcycles with cones and sport motorcycles.
The above growth partly thanks to the contribution of some hot models such as Honda Wave Alpha 110cc, Honda Vision, Yamaha NVX 125cc, Janus Limited Premium, Sirius Fi, Honda Lead 2017 and some other models.
The overall picture of the Vietnam’s motorcycle market now mainly focuses on middle-class models with fuel-efficient engines while there is a lack of new elements in high-end models. This shows that a great number of domestic consumers have high demand for cheap and affordable motorcycles.
In 2017, all five big motorcycle giants in Vietnam sold 3.2 million units, up by 4.8 percent compared to 2016, not only fulfilling the expected target but even setting a new record.
