The State Bank of Vietnam set the daily reference exchange rate at 23,262 VND per USD on May 8, down 3 VND from the previous day.
With the current trading band of +/-3 percent, the ceiling rate applied to commercial banks during the day is 23,959 VND/USD and the floor rate 22,564 VND/USD.
The opening hour rates at some commercial banks saw a strong decline.
At 8:25am, the BIDV listed the buying rate at 23,310 VND/USD and the selling rate at 23,490 VND/USD, both down 25 VND from May 7.
Meanwhile, the rates listed by Vietcombank dropped by 20 VND to 23,280 VND/USD (buying), and 23,490 VND/USD (selling).
Techcombank also cut 23 VND from both rates, listing the buying rate at 23,293 VND/USD, and the selling rate at 23,493 VND/USD.
The daily reference exchange rate fluctuated variably throughout the week from May 4 to 8, and ended the week up 15 VND compared to Monday.
On the contrary, the rates at commercial banks ended the week down 20-32 VND per USD./.
