MoMo e-wallet has been chosen as one of the payment channels for the newly-launched national public service portal dichvucong.gov.vn.
The portal, an electronic platform to connect the government with people and enterprises, opened on Monday after nine months of construction. It is estimated to help the State save VND4.2 trillion (US$180 million) per year.
Besides MoMo e-wallet, VNPT Pay, Vietnam Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Industry and Trade (Vietinbank), Vietnam Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Foreign Trade of Vietnam ( Vietcombank) and National Payment Corporation of Vietnam (NAPAS) also acted as payment channels of the portal.
Currently, the portal is piloting online payment for some public services including changing driver’s licence, re-granting health insurance card due to loss or damage and registering for low-voltage power supply service.
Nguyen Ba Diep, vice President of Online Mobile Services Joint Stock Company, the provider of MoMo E-wallet, said: “The launch of the portal will boost the e-government development of Vietnam and provide better services for people and businesses, in the country.
“In the initial time, Momo will exempt service fees to encourage people to use the service on the portal. In the long run, Momo will create non-cash habit in Vietnam.”
MoMo e-wallet is a pioneer e-wallet that actively cooperates with localities to carry out electronic payment under the government’s direction of promoting cashless payment since February.
Since April, MoMo Wallet was also selected as a unit of e-payment to turn the coastal city of Da Nang into a smart city. Most recently, Khanh Hoa was the second province to cooperate with MoMo to apply e-payments for the province’s public administrative services.
