Local tourism startups are now able to sign up for the Mekong Innovative Startup Tourism (MIST) Startup Accelerator programme this year.
The programme is for early stage companies in travel tech or traditional tourism. Applicants should be based in Cambodia, Lao, Myanmar, Thailand, or Vietnam with at least one founder being a native in one of these countries.
They should also have a minimum viable product already, as MIST does not accept idea-stage startups.
Interested startups should visit the official website of the programme at http://mist.asia/startup-accelerator to register and provide required documents prior to March 10.
Projects which show novelty, creativity and breakthrough growth will be selected for the second round. Startups of these projects will be offered a free one-week training course, and then compete with each other.
The outright winner will get $10,000 in prize money. Besides, five best startups will attend an all-expense-paid-for intensive training and consultancy course worth $20,000 within six months. They will have a chance to meet potential investors and partners.
MIST was set up by the Mekong Tourism Coordinating Office and the Mekong Business Initiative in 2017 with an aim to develop tourism in Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam, thereby bolstering the growth of these countries and shortening their gaps with others in the Southeast Asian region.
MIST also includes a Market Access Programme for mature startups based anywhere in the world that want MIST’s assistance localising proven tourism products and solutions into the Greater Mekong Subregion.
