HSBC launches facial recognition technology
The HSBC Vietnam Ltd announced on May 23 the launch of facial recognition technology for corporate customers, allowing them to use Face ID function to log in their banking accounts. The latest innovative feature is aimed to help customers speed up log-in process no more than one second.
The Face ID technology applied by HSBC Vietnam will work by recognising facial features, and analysing more than 30,000 points in order to create a depth map of the face. The function connects the bank’s mobile application programming interface (API) securely to the phone’s software to authenticate the user, with less than a one-in million chance of mistaken identity.
Customers using smartphones iPhone X now can use the Face ID function to log on the mobile app HSBCnet. Some 20 percent of HSBCnet Mobile customers on Apple phones are currently using it.
Last year, the bank launched a function called Touch ID using fingerprints to log in the HSBCnet mobile app. Touch ID has been available on smartphones that are able to scan fingerprints.
Along with Touch ID, the new technology would help clients simplify their transactional procedures by enabling them to view account balances and recent transactions more convenient and safer, said Nguyen Thi My Hanh, head of Global Liquidity and Cash Management of HSBC Vietnam.
According to HSBC, the bank has introduced the Face ID function service to clients in 23 other countries such as Australia, Canada, France, the US, mainland China, and many more.
