Domestic gold and US dollar prices at local banks edged up at the start of the new week today, April 8, said a news report on Nguoi Lao Dong website.
Saigon Jewellery Company (SJC) quoted gold at VND36.37 million per tael for buying and VND36.52 million per tael for selling, rising by some VND40,000 against last Friday. One tael is equal to 1.2 troy ounces.
Meanwhile, Hanoi-based DOJI Gold and Germs Group traded the precious metal at VND36.4 million and VND36.5 million for buying and selling, respectively.
However, domestic gold prices had remained low since the end of last year.
On the world market, the gold price moved in a narrow range and stood at VND1,295 per ounce at 10:30 a.m., up a slight $4 over the weekend.
Given the current exchange rate, the global gold price was some VND36.3 million per tael, or VND200,000 lower than SJC’s gold.
The State Bank of Vietnam quoted the central reference rate at VND22,988, unchanged from last Friday. The central rate was at its highest since early this year.
Meanwhile, local banks hiked the dong-US dollar exchange rate after keeping the greenback price stable for several days. Dollar prices were quoted at VND23,155 for buying and VND23,255 for selling, up VND5 versus last Friday.
